The Red Act

Every page has a price.
An eight-year-old archivist. A lost book.
'The Red Act' is a 2.5D fixed-camera psychological survival horror game. Sent by her mentor to recover a book of great import, a young archivist descends into a library that has swallowed everyone who came before her.
This is the free demo — the prologue, "Outer Stacks."
Features
- Hold to Bleed — sacrifice your own health to reveal hidden truths and open sealed paths. Every drop is a choice.
- No health bar — your wounds are the world. Color drains from the screen as your blood does.
- A library that remembers — fixed cinematic camera angles, hand-placed dread, and rooms that tell you what happened in them.
- Hand-drawn pixel characters in 3D spaces.
- Original score by Payton Rankin.
Content Warning
Contains blood, body horror, and themes of self-harm, trauma, and psychological distress. Intended for mature audiences.
Controls
- WASD — move
- E — interact / exit interactions
- Left Mouse — puzzle interactions
- Shift — sprint
- J — journal
- Tab — settings
Headphones and fullscreen strongly recommended. Best played in a dim room.
Dev Note
Solo-developed. All character/enemy sprites, animations, and key art are hand-drawn. Original music composed by Payton Rankin. AI assistance is used for feedback on code, and disclosed.
This demo is the prologue of a much larger story. If it caught your eye for any reason, a comment or a follow genuinely helps — I read everything.
